Ed. Note:  Today June 5, 2009, happens to be World Environment Day, a day established by the United Nations General Assembly.  Since 1972, it was set up to encourage awareness of the environment and encourage public and political action.

 

Every year, a different country hosts World Environment Day.  This year Mexico is the host and the theme is "Your Planet Needs You — UNite to Combat Climate Change."

 

Themes and slogans from past World Environment Day include:

    • Water:  Vital Resource for Life
    • Ozone Layer Environmental Concern:  Lands Loss and Soil Degradation
    • Only One Future for Our Children
