Do They Need Jackets?

These two statues (called Art and Science by Charles Keck) are located
at the entrance of the Columbia University campus main entrance.
As the snow fell, they didn’t seem to mind.

Or maybe they DID mind the snow and would liked a jacket or something.
What do you think?

The Phantom of Harlem and the Van Gogh’s Ear Award
January 14, 2009 | Filed Under Awards, Harlem, Neighborhoods, Seasons, Snow, Statues, West Side, Winter | 23 Comments

This snow-covered statue reminded me of the Phantom of Opera.
What do you think?
I took this photo the last time it snowed, a few days ago. We are expecting snow, AGAIN, this Thursday. I hope it doesn’t last long.

Thanks to Jientje, of Heaven in Belgium, for passing along the Van Gogh’s Ear award to me.
Roger of Idaho Photo created this award. You can read about the inspiration for this award here. Thanks so much, Roger, for that good laugh. I needed it and I’ll take your advice, along with the award.
Roger ends his award post with the words, "Always remember you’re unique. Just like everyone else."
LOL! I pass this message, along with the Van Gogh’s Ear award, to those of you who have stopped by here. Please feel free to copy it and post on your blog. You can find a smaller image of the award below.

Shinran Shonin (1173-1262)
January 14, 2008 | Filed Under Statues, West Side | 5 Comments

This is the statue of Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo-Shinshu sect. It stands in front of the Buddist Church (which by the way holds services in Japanese and English). Originally, it stood in Hiroshima and survived the atomic bomb blast. Later, it was brought to the U.S., as a symbol of lasting hope for world peace. In the second photo, I could have sworn that he was really looking at me as I took his picture.
