They’re Back!

April 29, 2009 | Filed Under Harlem River | 9 Comments

The college rowing team from Columbia University is back on the water.  They took a break during the cold weather.  Now, in the early morning, you’ll find them on the Harlem River.

Watery Wednesday: Reflections

December 23, 2008 | Filed Under Harlem River, Rivers, Watery Wednesday | 17 Comments

‘Twas the day before Christmas, when all through the city

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…

No, not really.  We’ve got places to go, people to see, things to do!

In the meantime, morning lights reflect off the Harlem River.

This is my first entry for the photo blogging event WATERY WEDNESDAY.  Check out the lineup of other entries here.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Ecological Day: Reflections on the Harlem River

November 1, 2008 | Filed Under Ecological Day, Environment, Harlem River, Photo Blogging Theme Day | 19 Comments

Normally, every Sunday, I participate in SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY and every second day of the month, I participate in ECOLOGICAL DAY.  This month, ECOLOGICAL DAY happens to fall on a Sunday and I’ve chosen to do an ECOLOGICAL DAY post.  For those looking for a shadow shot post, there’s an awesome lineup of shadow shot photos at HEY HARRIET.  Go check it out!

I love to watch activities on the river.  Sometimes it’s very active with various boats sailing by — tug boats, sightseeing boats, college rowing crews and more.  Other times, like in the photo above, it’s quiet.  Above the river, different birds soar, helicopters and planes pass overhead very quickly.

The river looks beautiful and has much to offer us when it’s pollution free.   Healthy and clean rivers are important to our ecological system.

We have only one earth, so let’s be good to it.   ;-)

To see other ECOLOGICAL DAY posts, stop by LEAVES OF GRASS.  Oh, and you can find the rules to participate here.
