Leaves and Sunlight

I love the way the sunlight hit the leaves.  Anyone know the name of this plant?  Happy Over-the-Hump Wednesday!

Ecological Day: Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose

April 1, 2010 | Filed Under Ecological Day, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose, Plants | 12 Comments

I took a photo of this Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose in February.  I was suprised to see this unique-looking plant alive and well, despite the snow around it.  Nature is marvelous!  We only have one earth, folks.  So, let’s be good to it.

This is my contribution to Ecological Day, a monthly photo blogging theme event, started by Sonia of LEAVES OF GRASS.   It falls on the second day of every month.

Last Days of Autumn

January 24, 2010 | Filed Under Autumn/Fall, Building Stoops, Harlem, Nature in NYC, Plants | 8 Comments

I haven’t taken photos lately, so here’s something from the archives.  I took this photo the first week of December 2009.

Happy Monday, all!

Nature’s Design

October 11, 2009 | Filed Under Ecological Day, Environment, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Plants, Shadow Shot Sunday | 6 Comments

Sonia of Leaves of Grass inspired me to post this photo when she posted her own sets of captivating photos of vine-covered buildings for Ecological Day.  I’d taken this photo earlier but never had a chance to post it until now.  Every time I pass by this building, I’m fascinated by the vines that cover its side year-round.  I love how nature simply takes over.  There’s no stopping it.  I love the greenery but I also love when the leaves change colors during the Autumn season.

Ecological Day normally takes place the second day of every month.  This is my belated Ecological Day post.

Remember:  We only have one earth, so let’s be good to it.

Elephant Ears part 2

October 4, 2009 | Filed Under Elephant Ears (Caladium), Nature in NYC, Plants | 7 Comments

Not long ago, I posted a photo of some very colorful Elephant Ears.  Thanks, Sharon for letting me know that they’re officially called Caladium (I’ve also learned that they’re also commonly known as Angel Wings and Heart of Jesus.  Very interesting.) I was pleasantly surprised to see these white-colored ones.  Of course, I had to stop and take a photo.

Have a great week, everyone!
