This apartment building was once full of people — mostly families.  Then one early morning, a serious fire spread quickly through it, forcing everyone out of their beds on to the very cold sidewalk.  On the television news, I saw fire fighters helping people down the fire escape.  This included an elderly woman who was reportedly 100 years (or more, I don’t remember the exact age now).  After that, the building was boarded up. 

Every time I’d pass by, I expected to see signs of renovation on the building.  I never did.  It’s been at least five years (maybe even 10 years) and there are still no signs that the building will ever be reconstructed.  I’ve always wondered what happened to all the displaced families.   I suppose that by now, they’ve moved on with their lives.

Today, the building is just an empty shell but if you look closely, you can still see signs of its former beauty.
