Wisteria in Bloom

May 25, 2009 | Filed Under Chelsea, Neighborhoods | 13 Comments

A few weeks ago, in the beginning of May. when I hung out with Elizabeth of About New York,

we walked through one particular block where wisteria bloomed in abundance.

The place looked magical and it was the perfect sign of Spring.

Sadly, Elizabeth tells me that the Wisteria have finished blooming.  Summer is right around the corner.

Follow the Yellow-Stripped Steps

May 13, 2009 | Filed Under Chelsea, Neighborhoods | 10 Comments

Follow the yellow-stripped steps.  Beyond, the silver car, you’ll find a Greek Orthodox Church.  The building on the right is an abandoned school building.  A bit of trivia about the school:  Actress and comedian, Whoopi Goldberg went to this now-closed school.  This is located in the Chelsea area of Manhattan.  (Ed. Note:  Apparently Whoopie lived in the neighborhood (West of 9th Avenue.  The school was called St. Columba — a Catholic school that recently closed down, though the church still remains, today.).

On the grounds of an old Episcopalian church in the Chelsea neighborhood, downtown,  I spied this flowering tree.  I took this photo months ago in the Spring time when I was hanging out with Elizabeth.

Thank you Today’s Flower’s Team (Luiz, Denise and Laetre) for presenting this Sunflower Award 2008 to all those who participate in the Today’s Flowers photo blogging event.

Found in the Garden

I saw a whole bunch of these manhole covers (at least, I think they’re manhole covers — Someone correct me if they’re not.) on the garden grounds of the General Theological Seminary.  I’m not sure what they were doing on the grass but they looked interesting and very decorative.

Walking around in Chelsea, the facade of this church caught my eye.
