Summer Look

June 21, 2010 | Filed Under Apartment Buildings, Building Stoops, Flowers, Nature in NYC, Summer | 10 Comments

Last Autumn, I’d taken a photo of this building stoop with the flowers.  There’s a big difference today.  I like the summer look here — the beautiful, colorful flowers. I also like the flower containers.

Have a good Monday, a good start of the week, everyone.

Ecological Day: Azaleas

May 4, 2010 | Filed Under Azaleas, Ecological Day, Flowers, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day | 19 Comments

I love to see these flowers when they bloom (I think they are Rhododendrons.  Please correct me if they are not.).  Nature always beautifies the city.

This is my post for Ecological Day, an informal, monthly photo theme day blogging event.  Started by Sonia of LEAVES OF GRASS, it takes place the second day of every month (yes, I know that the second day of the month has already passed.  Pretend with me that it hasn’t.  Okay?   ).

Check out Sonia’s blog post on a photo essay of feral houses.  Fascinating!

We only have one earth, folks, so let’s take good care of it.

Ed. Note:  Thanks Christine, Constance and Gisela on correcting me about the flowers.  Azaleas.  Got it!

Shadow Shot Sunday: Broadway Malls

April 25, 2010 | Filed Under Broadway Malls, City Streets and Sidewalks, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Shadow Shot Sunday, Shadows | 14 Comments

Despite the name Broadway Malls, you can see, this is not a shopping mall on Broadway.   The Broadway Malls is a landscaped median strip, stretching from 60th street to 168th street on Broadway.  You’ll find benches, plants, trees, birds and sometimes an occassional squirrel.  It’s a place where New Yorkers can enjoy a little bit of nature and their surroundings.

On this sunny day, a pattern of shadows also decorated this section of the Broadway Malls — a perfect shot for Shadow Shot Sunday.

Visit HEY HARRIET to see a line up of other shadow shots worldwide.

I enjoy seeing sights like this all over the city.  Spring has truly sprung.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Ecological Day: Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose

April 1, 2010 | Filed Under Ecological Day, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose, Plants | 12 Comments

I took a photo of this Pieris Japonica/Valley Rose in February.  I was suprised to see this unique-looking plant alive and well, despite the snow around it.  Nature is marvelous!  We only have one earth, folks.  So, let’s be good to it.

This is my contribution to Ecological Day, a monthly photo blogging theme event, started by Sonia of LEAVES OF GRASS.   It falls on the second day of every month.
