— The Best Gift Ever —

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.

Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him.

He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box.Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold.

Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said,"With all your money you give me a Bible?"And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him.He had not seen him since that graduation day.

Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son.He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago.

With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11,"And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible.

It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…PAID IN FULL.

How many times do we miss God’s blessing because they are not packaged as we expected?

I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for…

PLEASE SEND THIS TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.

A Strangely Familiar Meme

The entrance to the Central Park Zoo

Yes, yet another meme!  LOL! But this is the last of them, I think (until I’m tagged for another one).

Elizabeth of The House in Marrakesh has tagged me for this strangely familiar meme.  I’m doing it right away otherwise it’ll be a couple of months before I complete it (that’s what happened to the  memes below).   So, here it goes.

Paz

TEN YEARS AGO — June 1998:

I can’t remember what I was doing ten years ago (I can’t remember what I did last week or even yesterday, so this isn’t a good question for me.).  I looked for my calender book for that year and interestingly enough I can’t find it.  Hmmm…  I suppose I wasn’t doing anything memorable.

FIVE THINGS ON TODAY’S ‘TO DO’ LIST:

1.  Go buy ingredients to make Mendocino empanadas (empanadas Argentinian style).

2.  Go buy dog food and dog biscuits.

3.  Go to bank.

4.  Go put money on laundry card.

5.  Do laundry.  *ugh!*

THINGS I’D DO IF I WERE A BILLIONAIRE:

1.  I’d buy my sixth-floor apartment building and renovate it into a swanky state of the art residence.  I’d reserve one floor for my friends from all over.  That way, they’d have a free and comfortable place to stay when they come for a NY visit.

2.  I’d take a nice long vacation (maybe a year or two) with no worries.

3.  I’d take my friends on vacation with me.

4.  I’d help friends and family out.

5.  I’d set up an organization that helps children and animals.

THREE BAD HABITS:

1.  I

2.  am

3.  Perfect.

LOL!  I’ll never tell.  You have to find out for yourself.  ;-)

FIVE PLACES I’VE LIVED:

1.  Russia

2.  Belgium

3.  Egypt

4.  Ghana

5.  Italy

 FIVE JOBS I’VE HAD:

1.  Mediator

2.  Babysitter

3.  Lawyer

4.  Investigator

5.  Editor

 FIVE PEOPLE I’M TAGGING:

1.  Anyone

2.  Reading

3.  Interested

4.  in

5.  Participating

Go for it!  Just let me know you’re doing it, so that I can read about it on your blog.  Thanks!

Above the doorway of an office building in mid-town Manhattan

Long, long time ago, Tracy of Pink Purl tagged me for this Archive Meme.  I’m finally getting around to completing it.   ;-)

Paz

Link 1 must be about family:

LOL!  Umm… Well, I don’t write about my family, so I don’t have a post to give you.  Instead, here’s a link to my very first post.  This is were it all started.    ;-)

Link 2 must be about friends:

LOL!  Umm.. I don’t write much about my friends here, either.  I did write about meeting Elizabeth for the first time, a few months ago.  We had a good time at the Neue Musuem.  You can check out it out here.

Link 3 must be about yourself, who you are… what you’re all about:

LOL!  With the exception of the ABOUT ME section,  I don’t have any posts about myself.     Instead, here’s a link to an old post on one of my favorite subjects.

Link 4 must be about something you love:

I love NY!  So many things to see and do.  So many different people to meet.   It never gets tiring.  There’s always something interesting, something entertaining happening on the streets and sidewalks of the city, like here.

Link 5 can be anything you choose:

Here’s an old post about what I saw on a bus ride;-)

Do you have any favorites from my archives so far?  Tell me.

According to Tracy’s thoughts on this meme:  "I think this is a great way to circulate some of the great older posts everyone has written, return to a few great places in our memories and also learn a litte something about ourselves and each other that we may not know."

I think Tracy’s right.  In that light, I tag:

1-  Anyone

2- Who

3- Would

4- Like to

5- Participate

If you’ve decided to participate, please let me know, so that I can go check out your response on your site.

Archive Meme Guidelines:

Post your five links and then tag five other people.  At least TWO of the people you tag must be newer acquaintances so that you get to know each other better… and don’t forget to read the archive posts and leave comments!

Let’s Go to Church (and Blogging Meme)

January 27, 2008 | Filed Under Cathedrals/Churches, Harlem, Memes, West Side | 8 Comments

There are soooo many churches in the city, of different denominations, in different types of building structures.

On another note, Elizabeth of The House in Marrakesh, tagged me for a meme (?) asking for tips on creating a successful blog.  Sarah of Passementerie started this meme.  They both have excellent advice.

I’m a relatively newbie blogger.  I’m not sure I have anything of importance to share about successful blogging.  The only thing that comes out at me is to make sure that you (the blogger) should blog about something that you really like, probably are even passionate about.  That way it is contagious and others would  want to read your blog and come back for more.  I’m an amateur and this is my first photo blog but I’ve been inspired by other bloggers and am excited to share what I see in NYC with anyone interested.

Second, I’d say, blog for yourself.   What I mean is blog because you want to.  Do not blog because you want to know how many readers you will have, etc…  I remember a while ago, one blogger went on an angry tirade on her blog because she felt that not enough people visited her blog.  She was mad that another blogger received more readers and comments than she did and one of his most popular blog posts was about shaving his head.  LOL!  She felt that she blogged about something more important, so others should have visited her blog and left more comments, instead.  I couldn’t help think that wasn’t the right attitude to have about blogging.  Shortly after her rant, she quit blogging.

So these are my humble suggestions about blogging.

I think I’m supposed to tag others (7 bloggers) to contribute.  If anyone is reading this post and is interested, then

1-  I

2-  tag

3-  you!

4-  Go

5-  for

6-  it!

7-  Please give us your tips on successful blogging.

Paz

Ed. Note:  If you decide to do this on your blog, please let me know, so that I can go and read it.  And don’t forget to tag 7 other bloggers for their tips.
