It’s all in the Details

New York City is known for its tall buildings and towers. However there are many older buildings, which aren’t very tall — five or six stories high. The nice thing about these buildings are their varied intricate and fancy architectural details. I never get tired of looking at them.

Fire Escapes: Blue
October 28, 2008 | Filed Under Apartment Buildings, Blue, Colors, Fire Escapes | 13 Comments

Black is the standard color of fire escapes in the city, but if you look around, you’ll see various colored ones, too. I liked this pretty blue fire escape and since I couldn’t decide on which of the two photos to post (that happens a lot!), I’m posting both.
A reader in a previous post wondered what happens if there’s a fire in the room that leads to the fire escape. How would one escape the fire? If that happens, then most likely you can exit the apartment through the front door.

In case you haven’t guessed, the rule for Ruby Tuesday is that the post should include something red. Well, here is the red that I spied in the city for this week’s post — a red fire escape.
Visit WORK OF THE POET to see other Ruby Red posts and learn how to participate.

Fire escapes come in all different colors in the city. Here’s a green and a creme-colored one on two different buildings.
Have a happy Saturday!
