Columbus Circle
August 25, 2012 | Filed Under Columbus Circle

I was in the area of Columbus Circle, the other day and had the opportunity to take some photos. The only one missing in these photos is the statue of Christopher Columbus. Unfortunately, it is covered up with scaffolding, at the moment. I recently heard that the covered-up statue will be a part of temporary art exhibit (There’s some controversy about that.). Although Christopher Columbus wasn’t visible, there was still lots to see.

It was mid morning, yet there were lots of people up and about — pedestrians, bicycle riders and motorists, alike.

People entering and exiting Central Park on 59th Street.

Around this area, there are bikes for rent. Tourists rent them and ride around Central Park.

You can’t miss the bike-for-rent signs.

Just in case you missed the bike rental signs, here’s another one for you.

A horse and carriage on the way to the park to wait for those tourist who will not rent a bike.

To the valiant seamen
Who perished in the
Maine
By fate unwarned
In death unafraid
MDCCCXCVIII
MCMXII

Crossing the street: A family of tourists all wearing yellow.
I suppose they want to make sure that they won’t lose each other.

Tourists with their rented bikes examining their map. So many places to go!

Hanging out at the edge of the park.

Waiting to cross the street.

Horse and carriage waiting for some passengers.
A few days ago there was an accident with one of the horses.
Apparently the horse was spooked by traffic and a car hit the carriage.
The horse was fine but the passengers and driver were injured.
