Hats

September 8, 2010 | Filed Under City Streets and Sidewalks, Hats, New Yorkers

When I was younger, I never cared about protecting myself against the elements of the weather.  In the wintertime, I never wore hats or gloves (Sometimes, I’d use ear muffs and fingerless gloves but that was rare.).  During the summertime, I never wore a hat or used my sunglasses.  Well, that’s all changed the older I’ve become.   I’ve found that I definitely need those articles of clothing for protection.  Today, when it’s sunny, you’ll find me using my hat, among other things.

Out and about, the other day, I spotted different New Yorkers wearing their hats.  Nothing fancy but a smart move on their part to protect themselves against the powerful rays of the sun.  It’s been so hot and sunny, you could probably fry an egg on the sidewalk (and your head).

Do you wear hats and use other protective items  on sunny days?

  1. Mostly, for me, hats are for rain and/or wind. They don’t actually offer all that much sun protection, when it comes down to it – something like SPF 2!

  2. love the top hat! quirky and lovely:)

oh yes i definitely wear some protection, these past few years the sunrays have definitely changed (scary…) and it’s so easy to get burnt not only tanned so i always wear spf on sunny days, not so much hats (even though i have them i’m not that comfy with them during summers), but scarves sometimes and always sunglasses. my eyes definitely hurt without them!

winter, always hats/caps and mittens for sure.

  3. I always envy people who wear hats – because that means they can find hats that fit their heads! My head is too large for most hats so in the Winter I usually wind up wearing a scarf wrapped around it instead.

  4. I also never wore any of those when I was younger as well, but now I always make sure I have a hat, scarf, and gloves in the winter. I’ve also started to wear sunglasses in the summer too.

  6. When I was younger, I was the same way–I didn’t think much about the sun, other than it felt good in summer… LOL! No I do often wear a sunhat in summer, as well as sunglasses. The sunglasses get year-round use. Oh, don’t forget sunscreen! ;o) Wishing you a happy, sunny day, Paz ((HUGS))
