Shadow Shot Sunday: Waiting
April 17, 2010 | Filed Under City Streets and Sidewalks, Dogs, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Shadow Shot Sunday

It was Tax Day and I stepped out of the post office after standing on a very long line after finally taking care of business there. My eyes fell upon these two cutie pies. They anxiously waited for their owner and everytime someone exited the post office building they’d stand and wag their tails. The tail wagging would stop when they didn’t see the person they were looking for. A few strangers would stop and pet them.
I don’t like to see dogs tied up and waiting for their owners. Many times, they seem nervous or anxious. Other times, they just seem uncomfortable. I don’t think it’s safe to leave one’s dogs tied up outside. Not even for a few minutes. I’ve heard and read many sad stories of people’s dogs being stolen from the street when they were left. I never leave my dogs tied up outside by themselves. I’d rather make two trips outside — walk my dogs first, take them back home, and THEN go back outside to run my errands. That way, I know that my dogs are home safe and sound.
These photos are my submission to Shadow Shot Sunday, when we post photos that highlight shadows. Visit HEY HARRIET to see a fun lineup of other shadow shots from around the world.

Oh, I do so agree with you, Paz!! I don’t ever take my Schnauzer, Sam, anywhere that he has to wait outside, tied up. He would be terrified! Having said that, I do love your shadow shot for the day and hope it sends a message! Have a wonderful day!!

They are pretty! Beautiful shadow shots, Paz!
Adorable!
Cute little dogs!
Cheers,
Rosa
cute little dogs, hope they didn’t have to wait too long for their owner, but at least they were in the shadows
adorable. and i totally agree that it’s not responsible to take the dog with you while running errans and tied them up like that, not safe nor fun for the furries.
incidently, the dachshound = tax in swedish, so it was a very appropriate sight spotting these two on tax day…;)
Aren’t they just the cutest…and I’m with ya, I’d never leave Scratchy tied up outside…pity the poor fool that tried to take my heathen…ha ha!
Thanks for stopping and telling me I am not getting old.
I like dogs. Any dog I like. I like these dogs and the photo is very nice. I hope the owner got back before they got in trouble.
I agree with you!
It’s like leaving your babies alone…
Happy SSS!

I agree.
I don’t have a dog, but I would never leave him or her tied up and alone on the street. At least these two cute doggies had each other.
Great street scene shadow shot, Paz! Happy Sunday.
They are so cute, alas alone. The shadow that falls over them is huge, and hopefully not a metaphor for darkness to be a part of their lives. No bad animals, just bad owners!
I agree with you on the dogs. I would never do that, I always ensure my dog is home safe and sound when I run errands. Great picture
I never leave Buster for an instant!
I think he is so beautiful he would be stolen in an instant!!!
Good talking to you!

I agree with you, Paz. I never leave Flora tied up outside by themself… I fear it too.

Shadowy tombstone

It seems unanimous that leaving dogs tied up outside while the owner runs errands is just not OK. I think your work-around is perfect: walk the dogs first, then run the errands.
And by the way – nice shadow shots!
Christine
Thanks for stopping by, everyone!

I so agree with you Paz! It’s good to be trusting of the world because most people are good, but it’s better to take special care to keep loved ones safe and sound.
In the way the world turns, I’d like to think that by some quirk of fate, the owners of these lovely dogs, stumble upon your blog, read this post and NEVER,EVER,EVER leave their dogs tied up unattended.
The consequences are unimaginable. And if we can think it, someone can be capable of doing it.
Great pix though.
