Up Close and Personal II

February 6, 2010 | Filed Under Birds, New York City Wildlife, Starlings

Up above, I spotted some starlings in the tree.  Like the sparrow in the photo below, I was able to see this starling because of the bare branches.

I enjoy seeing the different birds in the city.  I recently discovered that there’s a hawk on my block.  MY block!!!   However, it cleverly remains out of  sight, hiding on one of the roof tops, until it’s time to hunt one of the pigeons or sparrows for a meal.  Ever so swiftly, it grabs a squealing bird and then disappears.  It will be a miracle if I’m able to get a photograph of that hawk.  A BIG miracle.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Paz

  2. I do like your starling photo. You got one, we got dozens or maybe even hundreds eating. A major problem but they need to eat. Have had and still having a major snow storm here in Ohio today. Already 10 inches at 5:00 AM and now some blowing and drifting and it is not supposed to stop until 6:00 PM or later.

Thanks for visiting my Today in Brookville, Ohio blog

  6. Wonderful capture … this bird seems to have its eye on YOU too. A hawk in your neighborhood? How amazing is that! I look forward to seeing it when you catch its photo.

    Paz,
Beautiful shot, you have such a talent with bird shots–amazing!!! We have a hawk that hangs out at our house and as we feed the birds with the bird feeder, he lurks waiting for supper. Nature is cruel sometimes.

    Hi Paz,
What an incredible photo of a Starling! I’ve never heard of a Starling bird before. Birds fascinate me. Some nice things happened about birds after my father died, I never had really been so aware before then. BUT like you, I don’t prefer the cruel parts of survival!!

How are you? Your mom? A?
Love and good thoughts coming your way.
    Happy Sunday.

  10. That’s the trick: the challenging shots! I’m always trying to get magpies. Very difficult little creatures, even though they’ll play right in front of you!
