The Day before the Snowstorm
February 10, 2010 | Filed Under Snow, Supermarket, Winter | 13 Comments

Last week, the weather forecasters said we’d get a snowstorm… a blizzard. However the snow missed the city. I was really glad about that.
This week, again, they predicted another snowstorm starting Wednesday. I was hoping that they’d be wrong again but just in case they were correct this time, I went grocery shopping the day before in preparation for the storm. Gotta have food and other supplies if I’m stuck at home. Right?
Apparently, a lot of people had the same idea because the supermarket was very crowded. There were so many people shopping and like me, they piled a lot of food into their carts and baskets. Long lines formed at the cash register.
This Wednesday morning, the day of the expected snowstorm, I had hoped to see not a lick of snow. However, when I went out with my dog, we found that the snow has arrived, indeed. It’s supposed to continue to fall all day and get heavier. I’m hoping the snow will only last maybe an hour or two. I can hope, can’t I?
Have a good Wednesday, everyone.

Groceries of the person standing in front of me.

Let’s take a closer look at what they’re buying.

This is my basket. I’ve bought ingredients to make a Mexican dish and later an Ecuadorian dish.
Oh, and I might bake a cake or bread. There’s no better feeling than baking on a cold, snowy day
– it keeps the home nice, warm and delicious-smelling, too.
Ruby Tuesday

Who could miss this big guy walking up the street — in red!? I couldn’t. So, I snapped my photo shot for Ruby Tuesday.
Actually the theme this week for Ruby Tuesday is Valentine’s Day. However, I haven’t come across any nice red Valentine’s decorations to photograph. So here’s the big guy instead. If you squint your eyes tightly and use a little bit of imagination (just a little) you’ll find that he looks like a giant Valentine Heart, walking in the streets of N.Y. Seriously. Try it. You’ll see what I’m talking about.

On the Streets

I was trying to get a photo of the kids all bundled up and going somewhere with their caretakers. They were the only ones on the street who wore something colorful. I wasn’t too successful with the shot because people kept walking in front of them (like this guy who should really be wearing a hat and a scarf), but you get the idea. Don’t you?
Happy Monday, everyone.

Shadow Shot Sunday

The shadow of a sparrow sitting on some branches.

Oh! By the way, in the comments section last Sunday, Sharon of Sweet Repose wondered where all the snow was in the city. None of my photos showed any snow. Ha! Well, last week, we’d had a little bit of snow but luckily, it did not stick. For this weekend, the weather forecasters said we’d have a lot of snow by Saturday. All day Friday, they cried out that a big snow storm was coming. Saturday morning, when I took my dog out for her walk, there was hardly any snow — just a light sugar sprinkling of snow in sight. It melted very quickly. Yay! I’m very a happy person.

How many sparrows and their shadows can you spot in this photo?
Ed. Note: There are five sparrow and three shadows.

Up above, I spotted some starlings in the tree. Like the sparrow in the photo below, I was able to see this starling because of the bare branches.
I enjoy seeing the different birds in the city. I recently discovered that there’s a hawk on my block. MY block!!! However, it cleverly remains out of sight, hiding on one of the roof tops, until it’s time to hunt one of the pigeons or sparrows for a meal. Ever so swiftly, it grabs a squealing bird and then disappears. It will be a miracle if I’m able to get a photograph of that hawk. A BIG miracle.
Happy Saturday, everyone!
