Walk Tall and Carry a Big Stick…

… Everyone else, get the heck out of the way!

*I changed the title of this post from "Exercising in the Park" to the one above after reading Bonnie Luria’s comments in my comment section.  I thought it was a more appropriate title.  LOL!  Thanks for the inspiration and the laugh, Bonnie.

This man shows up every morning and does some kind of martial arts exercise.  First he does it free style, slashing the air with his hands and doing kung fu/karate kick moves.   The second part of his exercise routine consists of using a long pole.  His stick seems to be at least 6 feet in length.  He raises his heavy-looking stick and thrusts it forward and twirls it.  He jabs at the air with vigor.  First forward, then to his left and then right.  He pauses for a second or so and starts all over again.  When I pass by him, I try to stay  out of his way as much as possible.  I don’t want to get hit.  It would probably be better if he chose a place where no one passes by.  He’s in the path of runners, joggers, bikers, people walking their dogs, people walking to work, etc…  I suppose he’s never hit anyone with his big stick.  Yet.

  1. Look at the size of those trees! And is it really warm enough in November for this guy to be without a jacket? The park looks so inviting… and the exerciser looks very intense! So nice that you can get out and enjoy the morning in this kind of environment. Paz! Love the series on this park…

I really like the contrast of him in the depths of the shade and that bright swath of sunlight on the tree.

  3. Hi Joanne: Yes, it’s actually warm around here. Unseasonably warm. I’ve been getting away with wearing my sweat shirt and jean jacket. No winter coat, yet. It gets cold at night but for the most part, it’s been warm and sunny.

Hi Bonnie: ROTFLOL! I’m changing my title and using your comment instead. Thanks for the good laugh. ;-)

Oh! By the way, this guy carries TWO big sticks. LOL!

    Thanks for stopping by, all.

  4. TWO big sticks?! Is that really necessary? He looks to be a man who wouldn’t take anything from anybody, daring them to get in his way. But maybe he infringes, just a little, on their territory in his zeal to keep them out of his.

  6. There is a lot in this picture a glance would miss. It takes a second or two for the whole to soak in. I like it too.
