Nature’s Design

October 11, 2009 | Filed Under Ecological Day, Environment, Nature in NYC, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Plants, Shadow Shot Sunday

Sonia of Leaves of Grass inspired me to post this photo when she posted her own sets of captivating photos of vine-covered buildings for Ecological Day.  I’d taken this photo earlier but never had a chance to post it until now.  Every time I pass by this building, I’m fascinated by the vines that cover its side year-round.  I love how nature simply takes over.  There’s no stopping it.  I love the greenery but I also love when the leaves change colors during the Autumn season.

Ecological Day normally takes place the second day of every month.  This is my belated Ecological Day post.

Remember:  We only have one earth, so let’s be good to it.

Paz

  1. I love ivy on buildings…always wanted to do it but always got talked out of it: brings bugs in and not good for the paint. I reckon it might be so, but it’s so beautiful to look at I think it’d be worth it. If I lived alone it’d be on! :-)

  3. I always wonderful if the ivy does damage to the masonry? It does look pretty being all green.

  4. Funny how we all seem drawn to the beauty of climbing vines.
That building looks like it might be swallowed up in a few more years.
As a young girl, our apartment building had ivy growing up the bricks outside. One day I saw ants on our living room wall- lots of ants.
I pulled the drapes away from the window and saw that the ivy had pushed its way through the screens and was actually growing up the living room wall, bringing with it, it’s inhabitants.
We pulled the vine off and yes, it left a trail and clings with much more tenacity than you’d think.

Great shot Paz- I bet lots of people would walk by that building in NYC and not even notice it.

  5. Hi June: I’m with you, I’d like to live in one of these Ivy-covered buildings.

Hi Sonia: Thanks for the inspiration and creating Ecological Day.

Hi Pat: I didn’t realize that the ivy creates damage. You’re right, it’s not wonderful if it damages the building, but I still like the look. ;-)

Hi Bonnie: Oh my! What an interesting experience you had with the ivy. I’m not sure how I’d react to seeing all those ants in my apartment. Scream first and then pull the vines off. LOL! Yes, I don’t think many people pay attention to that building. Many folks walk by.

    Thanks for stopping by, all.
