I Love…

May 26, 2009 | Filed Under Birds, New York City Wildlife, Sparrows

… to hear the sparrows sing, bicker, chat.   They can be very animated when they’re together.

Ed. Note:  A few of you have asked how I got so close.  I think I got lucky with this shot because the bird stopped less than a foot away from me and didn’t move for a while, giving me a chance to snap the photo with one hand as I held my dog on the leash with the other hand. LOL! Then I cropped the photo using a tip from Abraham Lincoln. I provided the link on how to do that in an earlier post. If you’re interested in it, let me know and I’ll dig it up for you again.

  13. Lovely portrait !!! I like them so much too. When my window is open their cheeping and chirping (tsilpen in Flemish) makes me feel comfortable. They are disappearing here in Flanders though, because they have difficulties finding food and breeding places. We feed them grain and just have hung sparrow appartments. That won’t change the current, but who knows one day people will understand ecology and things will change and untill then we will keep the sparrows alive ;-)
