Ecological Day March 2, 2009: The Pick it Up! Pledge

Plastic bags stuck in tree branches, unfortunately a familiar sight in the city.
Today is Ecological Day. It falls on the second day of every month. Unfortunately, I forgot. Yikes! I only remembered when I stopped by Pietro Brosio Gallery, this morning, and saw his wonderful post. So, here is my entry:
Unfortunately, plastic bags stuck in tree branches are a familiar sight in the city for me. It’s not a pretty sight and wouldn’t happen if we all picked up the trash we saw lying around. It wouldn’t happen if we disposed of our garbage properly.
Klaus of Virtua Gallery, who takes the most awesome photos of nature, has pointed out how garbage that people leave behind in places of nature are harmful and even deadly to the animals (Go take a look at the photos). He has started a Pick it Up! pledge, encouraging those who want to participate to pick up trash they see left behind by others.
I think this is a great idea because we can’t rely on someone else to pick up garbage that we see. Why not pick it up ourselves? It shouldn’t be a problem. It’s good for nature and it’s good for us. As a result, I pledge to pick up any garbage I see in my surroundings in the city. Click on the Pick it Up! button to read more about the pledge and participate.
Remember, we only have one earth, so let’s be good to it.
Sonia Mascaro of Leaves of Grass created this Ecological Day blogging event. Elma Carneiro of Caliandra do Cerrado now hosts it. Stop at Caliandra do Cerrado to see a lineup of other Ecological Day entries.
