Ruby Tuesday: Red Bricks

November 3, 2008 | Filed Under Colors, Community Garden/Farmers Market, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Red, Ruby Tuesday

Peek-a-boo!  I see you!

The second I spotted these red bricks under a pile other bricks and rocks, I knew they’d be my Ruby Tuesday shot for the week!   ;-)   The bricks lay on the outskirts of a community garden/Farmers Market that I recently discovered in the Bronx.  The sight of this two-acre garden, filled with vegetables, fruits, interesting-looking birds, and beautiful flowers, in the Bronx really surprised me.  By the way, I took the photo of the Morning Glory, which I posted yesterday  at this community garden.

As I took photos from the outside of the fenced garden, a man who seemed to be in charge invited me in to look around.  Before I left, he gave me a free bag of produce.  Later, I found that the bag contained egg plants, onions, plums, and other delicious vegetables.   What a nice surprise!

Check out WORK OF THE POET to see other Ruby Tuesday entries and learn how to participate.

  5. The brick is nice for delineating various plots in the garden. The brick is right, to add a simple beauty that isn’t a picture perfect big $ landscaping job. The free veggies are nice – Eggplant Parmesan, perhaps?

  8. Oh Paz, these are charming. But I am very interested in the location of the garden you mention. My best friend lives on Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx, and I am sure she would like to check it out. Can you email me with the info?

Thanks so much, you lucky (and talented) guy.

  24. We or I was cleaning up some stones and rocks and came across some beautiful red stones that I picked up somewhere and brought home. They are the kind that North American Indians used to grind into a powder and make a red paint from. Your red brick post reminded me of that.
