Ruby Tuesday: Bus Stop Sign

October 27, 2008 | Filed Under Bus Stops, New York Bus Life, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Ruby Tuesday

I never paid attention to the red color in this sign, till Ruby Tuesday posts (a photo blogging event, where you post photos that include the color red).   All of a sudden it jumped out at me.

If you get on the M4 bus, going uptown to the last stop, it will take you to one of my favorite places in the city — The Cloisters.  This is a museum that features art and architecture from Medieval Europe.  It’s affiliated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art

If you take the M104, going downtown to the last stop, it will take you to the United Nations, another favorite place of mine.

Visit WORK OF THE POET for more Ruby Tuesday photos from others.

Ed. Note:  A few readers have asked about the NO STANDING message on the bus stop sign.  This does not apply to bus riders but instead to other motorists.  A driver may NOT wait in his/her car at the bus stop because it takes up space and blocks traffic.  He or she will get a ticket if it happens.

According to parking regulations by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the NO STANDING sign means that the driver may only stop temporarily to pick up or drop off passengers.

Other familiar signs a driver will see are:

NO PARKING, which means that the driver may only stop temporarily to load or unload merchandise or passengers.

NO STOPPING, which means the driver may only stop  to obey a traffic sign, signal, a police officer or to avoid a problem with another car.

  1. Hi Paz! I’ve been to the Metropolitan Museum of art once and really loved it. I’d love to get back to New York now that I have a bloggers point of view :0)

  2. I don’t know NYC very well…though I HAVE been there…so I appreciate you telling us all about it. OK. This is your advice: Look for the sign with M104 and M4 and I’ll get to a couple of places I’m sure to enjoy. Thanks!

  5. I suppose the red on the sign is to get our attention, to do what is right. Of course, the taxis do pay attention to the ‘No Standing’ rule, right???

  6. Hey there, Ellen B: Come on back! ;-)

Hi E.G. LOL! Yes! Oh, and I should have mentioned that the M4 also takes you to the MET. ;-)

    Hi Yen: Yes!

Hiya Ralph: Well, the taxis have to pay attention now because they get big tickets. ;-)

  15. Hi there, Mojo: LOL! Nothing to be red-faced about. I’m glad you mentioned Daryl’s blog. It’s a super blog. ;-)

Hi Babs: How interesting. A motorway, huh? Here, M stands for Manhattan. ;-)

Hi Rhonda: Perhaps we can go to the Cloisters together. ;-)

Hi Pietro: I think you’d really like both places.

Hi Gemma: Thanks! It’s fun to see the differences and similarities in other places, isn’t it. ;-)

Hi Robin: I think that’s one of the reasons I like the Cloisters — the peacefulness one finds there. I haven’t been there in a long while, though. I will have to correct that. ;-)

    Thanks for stopping by, all!

Is it snowing in New York? We’ve got a white blanket down here in Central NJ.

  27. Interesting sign. Does the “no standing” mean no standing near the sign or no standing on the bus?

  28. Hi Paz,

Nice shot as usual. I’d like to see what you see when you go to the Cloisters! Happy RT.

  31. I love these shots. Hell, I love New York. No wonder it’s been turned into a cliche.

I get there twice a year or so but it’s not nearly enough. Thanks for these.
