Four Apartment Buildings without Shadows

Last weekend, I posted a photo of three of these buildings covered in shadows (for Shadow Shot Sunday).  Well, here’s another photo of all four buildings, sans shadows.  It was a rainy day when I took this photo, a few days ago.

Have a great Saturday.

October 30, 2008 | Filed Under New York Clouds, New York Sky, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Skywatch Friday | 36 Comments

Traveling on the bridge ( I’m not sure which one),  it’s nice to be able to look out the window and admire the morning sky.  Fishing Guy, thanks for the encouragement to post a sky pic.   ;-)

There are some really awesome sky photos from around the world, which you can check out at SKY WATCH FRIDAY

Passing by the East River, I spot the Roosevelt Island lighthouse.

A while ago, Harriet of Hey Harriet  passed along this Kreativ Blogger award.  I’m sorry that it’s taken me a while to acknowledge it and pass it on.  Thanks so much, Harriet!

By the way, there’s no obligation to accept this award, or write a list, or even pass it along.  I’m simply passing this award in the spirit of fun and appreciation.  Okay?   ;-)

Fire Escapes: Blue

October 28, 2008 | Filed Under Apartment Buildings, Blue, Colors, Fire Escapes | 13 Comments

Black is the standard color of fire escapes in the city, but if you look around, you’ll see various colored ones, too.  I liked this pretty blue fire escape and since I couldn’t decide on which of the two photos to post (that happens a lot!), I’m posting both.

A reader in a previous post wondered what happens if there’s a fire in the room  that leads to the fire escape.  How would one escape the fire?  If that happens, then most likely you can exit the apartment through the front door.   ;-)

Ruby Tuesday: Bus Stop Sign

October 27, 2008 | Filed Under Bus Stops, New York Bus Life, Photo Blogging Theme Day, Ruby Tuesday | 34 Comments

I never paid attention to the red color in this sign, till Ruby Tuesday posts (a photo blogging event, where you post photos that include the color red).   All of a sudden it jumped out at me.

If you get on the M4 bus, going uptown to the last stop, it will take you to one of my favorite places in the city — The Cloisters.  This is a museum that features art and architecture from Medieval Europe.  It’s affiliated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art

If you take the M104, going downtown to the last stop, it will take you to the United Nations, another favorite place of mine.

Visit WORK OF THE POET for more Ruby Tuesday photos from others.

Ed. Note:  A few readers have asked about the NO STANDING message on the bus stop sign.  This does not apply to bus riders but instead to other motorists.  A driver may NOT wait in his/her car at the bus stop because it takes up space and blocks traffic.  He or she will get a ticket if it happens.

According to parking regulations by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the NO STANDING sign means that the driver may only stop temporarily to pick up or drop off passengers.

Other familiar signs a driver will see are:

NO PARKING, which means that the driver may only stop temporarily to load or unload merchandise or passengers.

NO STOPPING, which means the driver may only stop  to obey a traffic sign, signal, a police officer or to avoid a problem with another car.
