Found in the flowerbox on the stoop of an apartment building.  Anyone know the name of these flowers?

Ed. Note:  Thanks to Gisela, I learn that these are Petunias.  Very nice!

  4. Ciao Pietro: Thanks! ;-)

Hi Rhonda: I’m not good with names of flowers or plants (neither was I good in biology) ;-)

Hi Medam: Thanks. They are actually very small flowers but they caught my eye and I had to stop for their photo.

    Best,

  5. Petunia..
One of the most charming of these new plants is a petunia look-alike called Million Bells Calibracoa. It’s such a well behaved and floriferous plant that it isused in flower baskets around the world.

I am very busy protesting against a proposed wind farm project in our lake, the Emerald Ash Borer what kills our Ash trees and organising the upcoming Shoreline Cleanup in September.

  6. Hi Gisela. Thanks for the heads-up on the name of the flower. I love it!

Good luck on your fight against the wind farm project. I just read about it on your blog. I never even knew about wind farms before or their negative affect on nature. It’s a very important issue.

Best of luck with the Shoreline Cleanup project, too. Thanks for caring about our environment and doing something about it.

    Big hug,

  9. I don’t know if I have ever seen purple petunias with yellow centers! So pretty. Or maybe it is the light making them look like yellow but it’s actually white in the center.
    Very very pretty Paz!

  10. LOL! Hi Lily: No trick of the eye. These petunias definitely have yellow centers.

  11. I like the flower and the color and the photography is good too. I have some petunias, but this heat has about got the best of the white ones in front. The ones in back have come up as volunteers for two years in a row. I suspect they are coming up from seed that they develop and drop.

I will put the Deer Hunting story on the Brookville Blog for Sunday (or tomorrow). It will be longer than normal but as it is also for newspapers and even longer for magazine articles. I don’t have a good deer picture, and never did, and at my age am in no shape to wander around thousands of acres like I did when I was 24. Or if I could I would be down there in a flash trying to get arm’s length from a herd of deer again. I almost get tears in my eyes thinking about it and wondering if I could still walk through the woods without making a sound. And, those deer crossings are used for generations and never forgotten so the deer still cross there where they did in 1958. I just can walk that far. So, anyway, I don’t have a deer picture to illustrate the story so used what you will see as a picture to show up on the portal. I hope you get to see and read it.

  12. Very beautiful purple color in those flowers, Paz! I love when people put flower pots out on their stoops –I do the same. A little bit of nature softens up the city.

Victorian Brooklyn is just a few aves away from both Faltbush Ave and Coney Islamd Ave which have lots of stores and restaurants so if you ever find yourself in Brooklyn it’s easy to walk a few blocks and see all those gorgeous houses!

  13. Hi Abraham: Thanks. How interesting about your ‘volunteer’ petunias, LOL! I look forward to seeing your upcoming post — the Deer Hunting story.

Hi Pat: I agree, the flower boxes add a little something extra to the front of the buildings — as you wrote, “softens up the city.” ;-)

Thanks for the tip about Victorian Brooklyn.

  17. Love petunias. They’re so easy to keep and give such an abundance of flowers and colour. I try and make sure to keep some in my window boxes every early summer, although I have been rediscovering pansies as lately and they’re pretty neat too…:)

    very lovely.
