Shadow Shot Sunday: Feeding in the Shadows

Watching these pigeons eat in the shadows, on a hot sunny day, I never realized how calculating they could be as each pigeon tried to make sure  that he got all the food for himself.  Many times, as the pigeon pecked at the food, he’d spread his wings (as shown in the last two photos) so that the other pigeons next to him couldn’t get to the food.  Kinda amazing and funny to watch.

This is my submission for Hey Harriet’s Shadow Shot Sunday event.  Check out the guidelines to participate, as well as the Shadow Gallery Collages of photos from other participants.

One of the public library branches.  I love that not only can I borrow books from the library, but I can also borrow DVDs, CDs and video tapes to my heart’s content.  Very cool!

This group headed towards Central Park.  I’m assuming that they’re going to the park to play.  You can’t miss any of them, with the kids in their bright orange hats and the lady in the same-colored shirt.  No one will get lost on this play day.  ;-)

Crossing the street, I couldn’t help but stop in front of these attractive flowers, placed in the street median.  Anyone know the name?

Ed. Note:  The consensus is that the flowers are Zinnias.  Thanks, everyone, for your input.

Baby Brown

From the archives:

This brown baby pigeon stopped moving around and instead tried to look invisible when I stopped to stare at it.    However, it stood out among the other baby birds, which were mainly black and gray.  As I took its photo, it looked at me with apprehension.  After a few seconds later, it scurried away.
