Pigeon Watch

June 28, 2008 | Filed Under Birds, New York City Wildlife, Pigeons

This pigeon watched me as I watched it and slowly pulled out my camera.   We had a staring contest of sorts but she didn’t fly away.

  3. If that pigeon knew what a close-up she’d be posing for, she’d have sucked in her gut!

It’s actually an enchanting and very sweet image. She does look like a she, even though there’s no way of knowing that.

  5. Oooh, lucky you! I’ve been trying the same thing with the magpies here in Glasgow, Scotland, but they just freak out every time they see the camera. Sigh.

  7. What an adorable pic! Isn’t it just amazing when the birds allow us so close up to get those shots?

  9. LOL! Yes, Bonnie: I think she looks like a she, too. ;-)

Hi Elizabeth: I just came from the site you mentioned. You’re right: They could be chums. ;-)

Hi DaviMack: I know what you mean about the birds taking flight. I have the same problem. These particular pigeons are getting used to me, I think, so they don’t take off so quickly (but they’re ready to do so). That’s why you see more pigeon photos here than other types of birds. The others don’t give me a chance to photograph them. LOL!

Hi Kristen: S/he is cute. I understand the they feed on all types of foods. I’m not sure what.

Hi Pia: I do think it’s amazing, indeed. She actually stayed still for me to take my photo. However, she watched me very closely to make sure I meant no harm. ;-)

Hi Tracy: Thanks! I look forward to seeing your photos from your trip. I’m excited for you. Have a fun time!
