Chronicles of a NYC Park Bench #2

February 17, 2008 | Filed Under Central Park, Chronicles of a NYC Bench

I wanted to experiment with black and white photos.  However, I couldn’t find anything on my photoshop program to turn the above photo into a black and white one.  Instead, I saw a charcoal/chalk feature.  So here is the result below.  I guess I will have to open up my camera manual one of these days to find out how take black and white photos.

Anyway, about this photo:  It is just too cold to sit outside.  Too cold.  So, the bench remains empty as people rush by.  I think Spring and Summer will definitely find it occupied with all types of New Yorkers.

  1. Paz, Very cool effects? I think if you want to remove the color, find the menu that has things like “Hue/Saturate” option on it. There should be either a Remove color or Desaturate option, which should turn it into b&w.

  2. Hi Paz! I love benches myself, and there are certainly plenty around NYC.

Never take B&W photos using your camera. Best to do it on Photoshop. There are many ways to turn your photos into B&W, sepia, etc. You can do what Mari suggested or for other stuff, you can use http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials.

Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo. Sorry I haven’t visited yours recently. I have been unwell (and still am). But I now have posted new photos and I hope you’ll like them. Have a great week!

  3. Very cool Paz…I like both the shots, but I do like the charcoal/chalk feature. I’ve always been a big fan of black and white photos.

  5. I like these shots, Paz, and the different nuances created with the chalk and the b & w. The b & w especially has a very dreamy quality. Happy week ((HUGS))

Hey there Melissa: I’m glad you like my BW attempt. ;-) By the way, Melinda inspired me to try it with one of her photos.

Hi Constance: Thank you! I’m going to experiment some more. ;-)

Yes, they are kind of mysterious.
My very simple I-photo has an automatic black/white thing.
but I am not very technically minded.
